About the Event

As successful and driven individuals, entrepreneurs tend to focus on their own success and achieving greater success for their company. However, the thought of aging or diminishing mental capacity and the effects of such on their lifestyle or business is not something that is regularly considered. In Ontario, there is a legal assumption that adults are capable of making decisions until it is proven they are not capable. However, many people at some point may require assistance with decision making due to dementia related to aging or a disability, including both mental health or intellectual disability. As service providers, when discussing succession planning with your clients, it is not only important to ensure that your clients have a proper will, but that they understand the importance of preparing a proper Continuing Power of Attorney for Property. In this session we will discuss the issues surrounding estate planning and the aging entrepreneur. Those who should attend this session include service providers such as accountants, wealth advisors and business lawyers, particularly those who serve aging clients.
